Better Never Trouble Trouble

“Better never trouble TROUBLE, until TROUBLE troubles you. For you’re sure to make your TROUBLE double TROUBLE when you do, and your TROUBLE, like a bubble, that you’re troubling about, may be nothing but a cipher with the rim rubbed out.” Dr. David Keppel *

What Does Double Trouble Mean?

According to recent studies and viewed from a statistical standpoint, over 85 % of all the things we worry about don’t actually ever happen. Ironically enough, during the time which we’re worrying about these non-probable problems, our body is reacting to the mere possibility of it all. We feel as if something bad has actually already happened to us. We’re troubling ourselves with trouble before trouble has even troubled us. The result is unnecessary pain and suffering.

How to Make Less Trouble

Break the cycle! The next time you find yourself worrying about something bad that might occur, think about the 85 % chance that it won’t ever happen. Remind yourself that by worrying about eventualities your are creating a negative present reality, at the least, because you are literally causing yourself to feel terrible. Then…

  1. Stop worrying.
  2. Recognize your current state of grace.
  3. Take a moment to be grateful.

Until we meet again,

Shailia

P.S. You are only excused from this practice, if you are actually preparing some sort of risk analysis for your job ;-)

Ruediger DiemP.S.S. This is my post-graduate colleague and friend, Ruediger Diem, a very lovely person with Austrian and German roots. I left his sound file in its original form without any cutting or post-production, because it is so funny and original. Thank you for your contribution to our blog, Rudi!

P.S.S.S. Here is another creative interpretation of “Double Trouble” which I found on Polyvore:

Sorry — nothing but a CYPHER? with it’s rim rubbed out? I always knew it as nothing but a ZERO with its rim rubbed out. That makes more sense.

Hi Bee,

Thanks for your note. Actually, there are a couple versions of this lyric. Zero makes sense – absolutely.

Have a great day,
Shailia
