In the following videos Frank Kern (coach and Internet marketing guru) talks about the significance of describing your perfect day in order to identify what he calls your “core identity”. Core identity is who you truly are at the very core, on the inside, where no one else can see. It represents what you really want in this life and what purpose means to you.
Frank’s concept of “shell identity”, on the other hand, is the outward showing personality which most of us present to the world – in order to be excepted, gain status, be more successful etc. For many people, their shell identity is sorely contrary to their core identity. And some of these folks have even begun to believe that their shell identity is who they really are.
This mix-up often comes at a great price, e.g., an outward incongruity which others recognize and don’t know how to respond to, a growing internal frustration and sense of overwhelm, the feeling of living an unfulfilled or meaningless existence – or just having a shitty day on most days.
Sound familiar?
If so, you might find this simple exercise to be powerfully useful:
The Exercise:
How to Describe Your Perfect Day
How Frank Answered the Exercise
If You Don’t Know Where You’re Going,
How Are You Going To Get There?
If you’re not feeling too happy about your life right now (perhaps for a longtime now), ask yourself these questions:
- Have I really sat down and taken the time to think about what I really want?
- What does my perfect average day look like?
- Who am I at my core when no one is looking?
If you can answer these questions – even remotely – you are one deciding step closer to living a more authentic and happy life.
Until we meet again,
Shailia
