I’m always on the look-out for software and online applications which have the potential to make my life easier and help me run my business more efficiently and professionally. Today I want to share one such tool with you. It’s an online survey technology called Survey Monkey.

Finding the Right Tool Can Be Overwhelming

If you’ve ever thought about conducting your own online survey, you may have already searched the web and found that there are countless companies offering online survey tools. If you’re like me, you also found yourself feeling a bit overwhelmed by the shear bulk of offers, not knowing which product provides the right features and functionality at the best and most flexible price.

I was faced with this issue last year while getting ready to conduct a fairly complex empirical survey for my master thesis. While your survey goals may not be quite as ambitious, you’ll certainly want something that is affordable, scalable, robust, professional looking and easy-to-use. Back then I reviewed a multitude of websites, signed up for a number of trials and test-drove a few solutions. Even after all that, I still wasn’t sure which product to use.

I Asked Professionals for Testimonials

Finally I started asking around. But I didn’t ask just anyone. I got in contact with strategic planners and statisticians out of my network who do consumer surveys on a regular basis. Without fail, they all recommended Survey Monkey.

Needless to say, I signed up and ran my entire empirical study using their application and I have been a happy customer ever since. These days, I use Survey Monkey to run smaller surveys and I’m stilling loving it. Here are a few things that I appreciate.

7 Reasons Why I like Survey Monkey

  1. Survey Monkey is currently available in 11 European languages. That’s key for me since I sometimes hold surveys in English and I occasionally poll German speaking audiences.
  2. The “Basic Plan” is free and includes the ability to design each survey for up to 10 questions and 100 responses. That’s really enough if you’re surveying on a small-scale or just starting out.
  3. The “Pro Plan” only costs 19.95 EUR a month and has cool features like branding possibilities, pre-designed templates, skip logic and practically unlimited usage.
  4. You can invite survey participants utilizing automated e-mail features. Or you can communicate your survey by sending a link. You can also integrate your survey into a website of your choice. If you decide for e-mail, you can monitor who has responded and who has not and send reminders.
  5. Survey Monkey VisualSurvey Monkey allows you to filter answers flexibly and export raw response data to excel and even generate a number of different graphical views (e.g., pie charts, bar diagrams etc.) for use in reports and presentations.
  6. Survey Monkey has been around for over 10 years and is the current market leader. So you can be sure they are trustworthy and that they are always working to improve their products and services.
  7. Their offering works just as well for private individuals, solo entrepreneurs and small businesses as it does for fortune 500 companies. They also provide great support.

Ideas for Running Your Own Survey

Maybe you’ve never thought about implementing an online survey or maybe you have but you didn’t go through with it up to now. Here are some good reasons to run an online survey:

  1. Find out which business challenges have your ideal customers or clients are facing by asking them with the help of an online survey. Then create information, products or services to help them better or more easily meet these challenges.
  2. Inquire about what you could be doing to better serve your existing customers or clients. Then tweak your business hours, your product offering etc. accordingly.
  3. Integrate a survey into your website or blog in order to take a poll on a current topic in your niche area. Then write an article about the results in order to show your expertise and engage readers in the conversation.

I hope you’ve been inspired to try out Survey Monkey and experience what running professional surveys can do for your business.
